Seventy-five years ago, a young Irishman returned from World War II with his bride and a dream. With experience gained working at a furniture and mattress company, the couple opened Donahue Furniture in Woodstock-planting the roots of what would become a beloved, family- owned business. In 1967, the store moved from its original location off the square into a new brick building on Route 47, a landmark that has welcomed generations of customers. Over the years, the Donahue children pitched in-wrapping Christmas presents, sweeping floors, and eventually joining their parents on the sales floor. Employees, too, became part of the Donahue family, helping to build a tradition of service and community. Now, as the store celebrates its 75th anniversary, Donahue Furniture invites the community to take part in its farewell sale, concluding at the end of the Christmas season.
